Atherton is blooming marvellous!

Atherton is looking blooming marvellous thanks to the joint contributions of Atherton and Atherleigh Labour Councillors who have each chipped in via their Brighter Borough funds to ensure the town centre has wonderful floral displays for all to enjoy.

Councillors John Harding, Mark Aldred and ex Councillor Karen Aldred met with the Wigan Council “In Bloom” Officer, Tracey Williams in January to arrange for the flower troughs and fence planters to be put in place. The Councillors wanted to ensure that the town centre has a bright and pleasant atmosphere for the benefit of residents and visitors.

Said Councillor John Harding, “Labour Councillors from both wards worked with the Council staff to ensure we got the best displays but we have also ensured the troughs and planters are located to try to discourage illegal pavement parking. In addition to the present flowers we have also funded the planting of some perennial flowers along Mealhouse Lane. These will be planted shortly to give year on year displays.”
